10 Nature-Inspired Craft Ideas for Fall

These easy crafts will encourage kids to get outside and get creative!

Pinecone Bird Feeders

Supplies:

  • Pinecones
  • Peanut butter
  • Birdseed
  • Twine

Instructions:

  1. Cut twine for each pinecone just long enough to tie around the top so it can hang from a tree branch (anywhere between 1-2 feet)
  2. Tie the twine around the very top part of the pinecone BEFORE adding peanut butter and seeds
  3. Cover the pinecone(s) in peanut butter using a spatula
  4. Pour some birdseed on a paper plate and roll the pinecone around
  5. Hang your pinecones near a window so the kids can watch the birds enjoy!


Paper Plate Apple Pie

Supplies:

  • Apple (cut in half)
  • Paper plate
  • Brown, red, and green paint
  • Brown construction paper
  • Scissors and glue

Instructions:

  1. Cut the construction paper into 4 strips the length of the inner part of the paper plate
  2. Put half of the apple piece in green paint and stamp the center of the plate a few times
  3. Repeat with red paint and the other piece of the apple
  4. Paint the outer, rigged edge of the plate with brown paint
  5. Wait for the paint to dry and glue the strips in a criss-cross pattern over the apples


Glow-in-the-Dark Pumpkins

Supplies:

  • White pumpkin(s)
  • Glow-in-the-Dark paint
  • Sponge-tipped paintbrush

Instructions:

  1. Splatter that glow-in-the-dark paint all over the pumpkin in any design you wish!


Coloring Sheets

Supplies:

  • Coloring sheets
  • Markers / crayons / colored pencils OR
  • Leaves and sticks
  • Glue

Instructions:

  1. Print out the sheets and either color with fall colors such as orange, red, yellow, or brown OR
  2. Find leaves and/or sticks that match the shape of the leaves on the sheet and glue them on!


Autumn Tree

Supplies:

  • Fall leaves
  • A large piece of paper
  • Brown marker or crayon
  • Glue

Instructions:

  1. Collect leaves from outside
  2. Use a brown marker or crayon to draw a large tree with branches on your piece of paper
  3. Allow your child to glue the leaves to the tree
          


Leaf Painting

Supplies:

  • Leaves
  • White paper (cardstock works best)
  • Washable paint (preferably green, red, orange, and yellow)
  • Paintbrush

Instructions:

  1. Collect leaves from outside
  2. Place one leaf at a time on your paper
  3. Paint around each leaf with your brush
  4. Carefully remove the leaf from paper to reveal the silhouette
  5. Repeat the process until your paper is full of leaf silhouettes


Leaf Rubbings

This is my family's favorite fall craft with leaves!

Supplies:

  • Leaves
  • Large piece of white paper
  • Assorted colored crayons (with the wrapper peeled off)
  • Watercolor paint
  • Cup of water
  • Paintbrush

Instructions:

  1. Collect leaves from outside
  2. Place leaves under your paper
  3. Using the crayons, slowly rub over the top of the paper to reveal the outline and details of the leaf
  4. Cover the whole paper with leaf rubbings
  5. When you're done fill all the leftover white areas with your watercolor paint
